The DACO160EVK (Evaluation Kit) is a small printed circuit board (PCB) containing the digital audio-controlled oscillator (based on an ST Microelectronics micro-controller) and some supporting circuits for showcasing the sound of its internal square, saw and sine oscillators. The DACO160EVK does everything its predecessor, the ACO160EVK did, but with higher performance and reliability. It also features a 2-pole LPF on the saw and square waves with optional envelope modulation.
The ACO160EVK (Evaluation Kit) is a small printed circuit board (PCB) containing the ACO160 audio-controlled oscillator and some supporting circuits for showcasing the sound of its internal square, saw and sine oscillators. The PCB also contains an ST Microelectronics microcontroller for converting the ACO160’s pitch and amplitude information into MIDI commands for controlling digital synths.
The ACO160 is a new and improved version of the ACO100 Audio-Controlled Oscillator which was used on Sonicsmith’s first audio-controlled synthesizer products, the ConVertor and the Squaver P1. The improvements include:
- Sine wave outs
- Harmony tunable over every note on the 12-note equal tempered chromatic scale over +/-2 octaves
- Oscillator sync
- Improved envelope out with zero ripple even for very low input frequencies
- “Pitch freeze” feature added when gate drops to address the well-known pitch dropping problem when notes decay (“pitch freeze” can also be user-controllable)
- Support for one-audio-cycle-latency MIDI out with an added microcontroller
